Inventory Management

What it's for

A single source of truth for what you have in stock — raw materials, components, finished goods, and retail products.

How it works

Inventory is intentionally not a place where you manually type in stock numbers. Every item's quantity is driven by real events elsewhere in the system:

  • Raw materials: Stock only increases when you receive a Purchase Order from a supplier (with a real cost attached).
  • Components / Finished Goods: Stock only increases through a Production run (BOM-based) or a completed stage-based batch.
  • Retail products: Stock only increases through a Purchase Order (for items you buy in to resell).

This approach keeps your cost data accurate. Every item carries a running weighted-average cost, recalculated automatically every time new stock comes in at a different price. (e.g., buying the same material at $40, then later at $45, correctly blends into a true average — not a simple average).

Pro Tip: Low-stock alerts trigger automatically once a quantity drops below a threshold you set per item. These appear both as an in-app indicator and (if enabled) an email alert. The Inventory page is a live, read-only view across all item types — you always see current, accurate numbers without ever having to "true them up" manually.
